Time outdoors for children is very important. At The Hunny Pot Nursery, we are extremely proud of our unrivalled outdoor classrooms. We are extremely fortunate to have a very large, very secure outdoor facility. Each area has CCTV for added security.
We have developed this space into six distinct areas; this means we can create a focused outdoor curriculum which is accessible to all age ranges within the nursery. It guarantees that children are exposed to a wide variety of physical activities that other providers may struggle to do.
The different areas mean that children can have a different adventure every day. The outdoor classrooms are an ideal environment for children to develop their gross and fine motor skills while having fun.
Roo’s corner is a beautiful decked (and shaded when needed) making sure that babies get plenty of time outdoors. On the hotter, sunnier days, this provides much-needed shade and protection from the sun for the babies, whilst in winter it provides fresh air without being exposed to the elements.
The Kanga’s pocket outdoor area is a small area where children can feel tucked away from the rest of the outdoor area. Kanga’s pocket allows children to play in the mud kitchen and have access to the other areas such as the storytelling space or the sand and water pits. This helps develop children’s gross and fine motor skills as well as firing imagination and getting plenty of fresh air and exercise.
Christopher Robin’s Playground
Christopher Robin’s Playground is the second outdoor sheltered area that we are developing to become a picnic area where children can sit and enjoy a picnic in good and bad weather. It is the perfect area for children to sit and play or to colour, mould and generally develop their concentration and motor skills.
One Hundred Acre Wood
Our One Hundred Acre Wood area is a fabulous area for climbing, digging and exploring. This is at the lower level of the garden, along with the mud kitchen, the bug hotel and the planting and growing area. As well as being able to climb and run around safely, children have the opportunity to plant their own flowers, vegetables and herbs, and watch them grow. They have the opportunity to nurture their plants and watch them grow and mature.
The various activities, including the story chair (where children can sit and listen to stories) or climbing frame and ropes, where they can act out stories, or the planting area and bug hotel, where they can learn about life cycles, there is always plenty for children to do and learn here.
Further along in the garden, there is a larger area where children can climb and generally burn off energy. There is a seating ara with a vantage point as well as large bike area with visual road markings and crossings, as well as dens in which children can play and explore.
All the area is safe and secure and is risk assessed very regularly.
It is an ideal area for children to develop their gross motor skills and fire their imagination. This is a sheltered area that children can access all year round regardless of weather conditions. It is equipped with boards and games. There is access to seating and the floor is covered in order that children can make maximum use of this space.
