Outdoor Classrooms

The outdoor environment is ideal for developing children’s physical and gross motor skills.

At the Hunnypot, we are extremely fortunate to have a very large, very secure outdoor facility. We have developed this space into four clearly differentiated areas; this gives us the opportunity to create a focussed outdoor curriculum, which is accessible to all the age groupings within the nursery. It guarantees that the children are exposed to a wide variety of physical activities that other providers struggle to compete with.

This room is for toddlers aged 12 to 30 months (depending on their developmental needs).

The room is set out to enable the children to explore their growing curiosity of the world around them.

Children take part in activities such as painting, drawing, sand and water play, craftwork, cooking, music and nature study to help children to develop and express themselves.

Staff are chosen for this room for their patience and a good understanding of toddlers’ needs and wants.

The ratio in this room is 1 carer to 4 children, but you will see we run it with a ratio of 1-3 as we feel the children need more attention at this age.

All activities are planned around each individual child’s needs, developmental stage and interests. Children at this age are learning at an extraordinary rate and we aim to feed their minds, allow them to explore new things and use their newly developed physical abilities to promote keeping safe and healthy.

All our under 3’s work towards goals set by the Early Years Foundation Stage.
